In the prologue we find young Gunnar dangerously injured. His father had been killed in a tournament days before, and he'd just watched his mother murdered before his eyes for refusing to wed the marauding Baron who stormed their keep. Chased down and slashed from behind, Gunnar is saved from death by a local healer, and vows vengeance. As the story begins, an adult Gunnar still strives to avenge his parent's death, even if it means his own. But the Baron is no longer a fierce foe - he's an old man. Unable to find an opportunity to challenge the Baron hand-to-hand, Gunnar raids and vandalizes his various holdings, and finally kidnaps his daughter, hoping to force his foe to a duel for her life.Raina is the feisty and beautiful daughter of the Baron, who has doted on her since she her mother died. Dragged off by a man she finds both irresistible and terrifying, she doesn't know who to believe. Gunnar seems to be sincere in his portrayal of her father as a heartless murderer, but that doesn't jive with the indulgent and kind man she has known her whole life. How could her father possibly have done the things Gunnar claims? The pair inevitably give in to their storm of passion, knowing full well that they face a heartbreaking end. Raina will soon be exchanged for her father and return to her life as a Lady, while Gunnar satisfies his need for revenge. But now that Gunnar has his goal within his reach, he wonders if he can really give up the woman he's come to love. For an early work, Lord of Vengeance is nicely done. Yes, it's a bit formulaic but the passion is there, the setting is interesting, and the plot rolls along well with good pacing. There are a few anachronistic moments, and the bad-guy conflict stalls a bit as the characters deal with their romantic feelings and doubts. One chuckle I did get was early in the book where Gunnar muses that he's only had one sexual experience since he's afraid that getting involved with a woman will distract him from his purpose. Either that one experience was with the world's greatest courtesan, or Gunnar was born with the coveted porn-star gene, because he certainly knew all the moves. It always cracks me up in a romance when a sexually inexperienced character instinctively is the Greatest Lover Ever. Usually it's the woman, who is a virgin one moment, then suddenly can deep throat and work the kegels like a pro. In this book it was the guy, and it made me giggle. All my nitpicking aside, this was an enjoyable book, a light historical romance for a chilly November evening.

Even though this book is obviously one of Ms. Adrians earliest works...it's still a fun read if you're in the mood for something verrrrry sweet with little romance. It's just so gosh darn fun to read a story where this macho Alpha Male is all twisted up and driven to distraction over some petite female. The story begins with a five star bang that continually holds the reader captive. The thing is, it doesn't progress! The first half of this book is all about Lord Gunnar Rutledge's desire for Lady Raina d'Bussy...it's fun to read about his dilemma, but it grows tedious and becomes mundane. For that reason I give it a four star even though I prefer something a bit more racy. This story is "sweet", unoriginal and predictable. As a 10 year old boy, Gunnar Rutledge watches as his mother and father are slain and he himself is cut down and left for dead. But he survives and swears vengeance upon the man who murdered his parents, Baron Luther d'Bussy...yep, it's Lady Raina's dad. (dum dum duuuuum) Lord Gunnar matures into a mighty warlord and after waiting thirteen years, takes his vengeance out on Baron d'Bussy (now an old, crippled man), by destroying his lands and taking his daughter (Lady Raina) hostage to trade for d'Bussy himself.Lord Gunnar Rutledge is the usual warlord character...ie; hawt and yummy, arrogant and extremely proud. I loved him! He's stubborn and serious and because of his violent past, he's built a protective wall around himself. He's emotionless. He's unaccustomed to showing or feeling emotion...he's trained himself to feel nothing but hate and bitterness. He lives for vengeance. So when he unexpectedly begins to feel and care for Raina, the emotions make him fearful. He's fearful that those new feelings will weaken him towards his lifelong ultimate goal of vengeance.I had mixed feelings about Lady Raina d'Bussy. There's very little description about her. We only read that her hair is "dark" and toward the end of the book we find out her eye color is green/brown. Raina is virtuous and naive, but strong and courageous. I loved how "proper" she was. For Gunnar, she's a fascinating abundance of temptations. The villians basically disappear after the first few chapters and we don't read anymore about them until the very end; still, all in all..the story is fairly well told in a cutsey sweet fashion.

I guess I really do need to heed that advice about judging a book by its cover. I almost passed this one by due to the cheesy cover art. However, I'm glad I downloaded this book. It turned out to be one of those rare 5 star keepers in my opinion. The story is about Gunnar Rutlege and his need to exact revenge on Baron d'Bussy for murdering both Gunnar's father and mother. The gruesome prologue describing the death of Gunnar's mother and his own near death gives the reader an understanding of why Gunnar's entire life was a quest to seek revenge. He had spent the next 13 years honing himself into an unfeeling warrior. Emotions got in the way and gave room for error. Gunnar couldn't afford to be distracted from his single vision of honor in retribution.Gunnar's revenge plot get thwarted somewhat when he met and developed feelings for his enemy's daughter, the lovely Raina. When he first met her she was dressed as a peasant girl while out racing her lifelong friend Nigel. Both Raina and Nigel had grown into young adults, and Raina wasn't quite prepared for Nigel's developing feelings towards her. Luckily for Raina, Gunnar happened to be near to resuce her from an unwanted advance. Later in the story, when Gunnar discovers Raina is the daughter of his nemesis, he kidnaps her in hopes of getting to her father. The relationship between Gunnar and Raina was enjoyable to watch. The author built the story with enough tension and contact between the two that kept me hooked. Gunnar had wonderful growth as a character throughout the story. Raina did as well. The story had a few tension filled moments of suspense. I truly was not expecting the outcome of Nigel's part in this story. Well done. I will be a repeat reader of this author.

When readers, especially younger ones, ask me what fantasy novels to read after going through “The Hobbit” and “Lord of the Rings” by Tolkien, I usually tell them to check out “The Dragonlance Chronicles” by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman. That trilogy starts off with “Dragons of Autumn Twilight,” a book I adored as a child and returned to three decades later. There are problems to be sure. The writing is often clunky and, as the authors admit in their notes in the “Annotated Chronicles,” they fell into the traps associated with TSR producing a series of RP modules at the same time as the books, especially where “Autumn Twilight” was concerned. Characters often make strange decisions so the plot can flow and the humor goes from funny to forced in the blink of an eye. There are far too many heroes at the end of the book with almost 15 characters in the main party. Needless to say, some of the characters simply get lost (including one who was crucial at the start of the book and basically ignored by the end of it). Going through TOR’s reread of the books--which is worth looking at--I found myself nodding my head far too often as the reviewers pointed out the various problems. But these problems pale in comparison to a fine book. Weis and Hickman do an amazing job at introducing the characters at the start of “Autumn Twilight” and do a fine job of guiding them through various adventures. The battles scenes are often excellent. Many of the heroes stand out as do some of the villains. Readers who enjoy fantasy novels should enjoy this book and exploring the lovingly crafted world of Krynn.Sure, there are too many cliches. Yes, Weis and Hickman keep tripping over TSR’s modules. There are way too many characters fighting for attention toward the end of “Autumn Twilight.” These kind of problems would undermine most books. That doesn’t happen here thanks to a fun plot in constant motion and some strong and intriguing characters. Even after three decades, “Autumn Twilight” holds up very well. Highly recommended.

The first time I read this book was close to 30 years ago (ouch). Enough volumes have passed before my eyes and through my thoughts that there was much I’d forgotten. The best books are those you can read and then return back to, like an old friend, to visit again.Weiss & Hickman have always been excellent storytellers that are vivid in their descriptions of surroundings as much as character development. I can imagine the smell of burning vallenwood as Ember, the red dragon, attacks. Fizban and Tasselhoff add much-needed brevity to the adventure. Raistlan, the mage, still gives me the creeps. If you’ve ever played Dungeons and Dragons (or even its video grandchildren: Legend of Zelda, Skyrim, or Baldur’s Gate), reading these books is like starting out on a new game or campaign. As always with me, no spoilers! Basically this is a classic epic fantasy of companions on a quest to save the land they love. They will battle hobgoblins, ghosts, zombies, and dragons on the journey. You’ll laugh, you may cry, but you won’t want to put it down. That’s all the hints you’ll get from me. Open the cover for yourself and make the journey to the magical world of Krynn.

Fantastic series, especially for gamers. However, be advised that there are numerous formatting errors in the kindle edition. In many places, there is no double spaced paragraphs to indicate a scene change within the same chapter. The result is a jarring sudden scene change, sometimes appearing as if a character elsewhere is replying to a character in the previous scene.

This book truly sets the standard for Fantasy Novels. I remember first reading this book (along with the other 2) in highschool during my freshman and softmore year. They amount of joy I had reading through the pages is something I'll always remember. Each word paints a vivid picture in your mind. The characters, each and every one, are lovable and distinct. You will find yourself truly attached to their adventure, anxiously waiting to turn the page to discover what is going to happen. As the story unfolds, you'll start to notice that you read more and more every time you open the book. One used to be a chapter a day turned into 4 chapters back to back. It's simple, this book and its trilogy will change the way you see other books. this will be what you compare all other books of this nature to. As said before, I read these books in highschool, I recently purchased the entire trilogy plus 2 others of the same story line about 2 weeks ago. I was 15 then, I'm 26 now, and let me tell you... 11 years later, this book is even better! You will laugh, you will have anxiety, your jaw will dropped from shock, you may even cry. The authors imagined a world that will become familiar, as if it's a real place you can travel to. You may find yourself day dreaming of its contents. Whether you a RPG fantasy nerd or just a person with a great imagination, young or old, this is a book for everyone to enjoy. A book I highly recommend. May it's pages bring you as much joy as they did for me.

I read this book back in 1986, and i never forgot it. I was sitting one day and it randomly crossed my mind, I decided to test myself and write a list of all of the ,main characters from memory. I only lost Tika "Waylan's" and Kitiara "Uth Matar's" last name to 30 years of time. The Dragonlance Chronicles will be held to my heart as something I have loved since I read the first sentence. So I bought the DragonLance Chronicles in the Kindle format.

Surely this exhaustingly-researched, enthralling and enthusiastically-written tome is the last word on the most famous of all seafaring mutinies, that of shipmate Fletcher Christian and against Lieutenant Bligh on the Bounty. More than 200 years have gone by since the ship left England after dreadful weather kept it harbored for months, on its mission to transport breadfruit from Tahiti to the West Indies. The mutiny in Tahiti left the mutineers scattered about the paradisiacal islands and found Bligh and 18 of his loyal crew members set adrift in a 23-foot open boat. Bligh, who'd served as Capt. James Cook's sailing master, fantastically maneuvered the crew on a 48-day, 3,600-mile journey to safety. Caroline Alexander, author of The Endurance, is never in over her head even when weaving together densely twisting narratives, or explaining the unwritten rules of the Royal Navy, of the complexities of class and hierarchy that impelled much of what happened aboard the Bounty. The book centers far more on the effort to round up the mutineers than the actual mutiny itself. The book is enlivened by the colorful commentary of the crew members themselves, gleaned from letters and court documents. Alexander does us all the favor of presenting Bligh the way he was understood and received in his day--as a brilliant navigator who, when placed in context, was not a brutal task-master at all. She roots the tyrannical figure we know so well from the movies on the last-ditch efforts of one well-connected crew member to save his own hide from hanging. --Mike McGonigal

From Publishers Weekly

A contributor to the New Yorker, Granta, Cond‚ Nast Traveler and National Geographic, Alexander brings the past to life with travel narratives spanning continents and centuries. Alexander (The Endurance) again recreates a high seas voyage, retelling a familiar story-of the South Pacific misadventures of the small British naval vessel the Bounty-yet taking a fresh look at the drama. Commanded by William Bligh, the Bounty left England in December 1787 to transport breadfruit trees from Tahiti to the West Indies. During the 1789 mutiny, Bligh and crew members were set adrift in an open boat and eventually returned to England. Bligh-who up until now has been viewed as a tyrant-was praised at the time, Alexander finds, since "no feat of seamanship was deemed to surpass Bligh's navigation and command of The Bounty's 23-foot-long launch, and few feats of survival compared with his men's forty-eight-day ordeal on starvation rations." Alexander's reconstruction of the mutiny and its aftermath (thanks to her exhaustive research through books, reports, newspapers, correspondence, historical societies and archives) is almost as remarkable as Bligh's feat. She details daily events during the captured mutineers' court-martial, expanding on court transcripts. Separating facts from falsehoods and myths in the closing chapters, she finally turns to the life of the mutineers on Pitcairn Island, noting "this fantastic tale of escape to paradise at the far end of the world had the allure of something epic." Alexander's work is destined to become the definitive, enthralling history of a great seafaring adventure. Maps and illus. not seen by PW.Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information, Inc.

The Bounty still sails, maintaining its place in the popular imagination. It wasn’t much of a ship, really – an ordinary three-masted merchant vessel – but it ranks with Jason of Thessaly’s Argo among those ships that have entered the realm of myth. It is the centerpiece of an epic story of love, adventure, conflict, survival, and of course mutiny. And the reader who wants a truly thorough recounting of the saga of the Bounty would do well to consult Caroline Alexander’s "The Bounty" (2003).Alexander’s interest in maritime history is demonstrated by her earlier book "The Endurance" (1998), a look at Sir Ernest Shackleton’s Antarctic expedition of 1914. Five years later, as she sought to set forth "The True Story of the Mutiny on the Bounty" (the book’s subtitle), she followed in the footsteps of earlier Bounty historians like Richard Hough, whose "Captain Bligh and Mister Christian" (1973) first set forth the revisionist thesis that perhaps William Bligh was not such a villain, and Fletcher Christian not such a saint. Alexander’s book differs from Hough’s chiefly in the sheer level of detail with which she dedicates herself to the task of finding out what happened to every single person who was on the Bounty on 28 April 1789, whether loyalist or mutineer. In Alexander’s reading, Bligh is a commander whose “fundamental humanity” (p. 129) makes him the superior even of the famed Captain Cook. If he displayed a flaw in his command of the Bounty, it was in the favoritism that he displayed toward two young officers – Master’s Mate Fletcher Christian, and Midshipman Peter Heywood, both of whom later played crucial roles in the Bounty story.I was surprised that Alexander dispensed with the actual mutiny on the Bounty as quickly as she did – not quite three pages, out of a book that is 410 pages long (not counting references). Yet she sets forth well the astounding saga of Captain Bligh’s open-boat voyage with the Bounty loyalists – 3500 miles, from Tofua (in modern Tonga) to Coupang (a port of contemporary Indonesia). It is difficult to take issue with Alexander’s assessment of Bligh’s achievement: “As an almost sublime record of extreme suffering and undaunted resolution, few documents can compare with the log William Bligh kept in the Bounty’s launch” (p. 150).Alexander’s core interest in the Bounty story seems to be in Bligh, as when she thus sets forth her sense of how Bligh’s very virtues as a commander may have contributed to the mutiny:“It can be fairly said of Bligh that his great asset as a seaman was not only his unimpeachable professional skills, but his unshakable, complacent, immodest confidence in them. This confidence – the wellspring of his professional optimism, and indeed his courage – was what had enabled him successfully to command the Bounty launch on the most historic open-boat voyage yet made. This confidence in turn sprang from a relentless perfectionism, an unwavering and exacting adherence to the strictest letter of the laws of his duty. The gift of perfectionism and all that flowed from it was what Bligh sought to instill in his protégés. However, it may be that the very specialness of his relationship with these chosen young men was the weight that crushed them” (p. 315).Captain Bligh was lauded as a hero, a navigator for the ages, when word of his successful open-boat voyage made it home to England; the Bounty mutineers, by contrast, were regarded as lawless renegades rising up against legitimate authority, the way mutineers are usually regarded. What, then, caused the sea change through which Fletcher Christian became, in the popular mind, the hero of the Bounty saga, William Bligh the villain? The wealthy and well-connected families of “gentlemen” Peter Heywood and Fletcher Christian had means, motive, and opportunity for discrediting Bligh, and worked hard to rework the Bounty narrative in British popular culture.Bligh, meanwhile, does not seem to have fully understood what he was up against. “While Bligh had defended himself in crisp, logical naval fashion, he failed to comprehend that he was doing battle with a force more formidable and unassailable than any enemy he would meet at sea – the power of a good story” (p. 343). The Bounty saga unfolded as the Romantic Age began; and Bligh’s eminently neoclassical marshalling of facts, reason, and logic was no match for a mythologized Fletcher Christian as “the perfect Romantic hero – the tortured master’s mate, his long hair loose, his shirt collar open…with his gentlemanly pedigree and almost mythic name” (p. 344).At the same time, Alexander offers a fair-minded assessment of Fletcher Christian and Peter Heywood, the two best-known mutineers. Peter Heywood, convicted of mutiny and sentenced to hang, received a reprieve from King George III, and made the most of the monarch’s clemency, rejoining the Royal Navy and serving honourably for the rest of his professional career. Alexander’s judicious assessment is that “On balance…in [Heywood’s] case, justice could be said to have been fairly served; he had been found guilty, but had been pardoned to redeem himself – which he had done with, it would seem, penitence and humility. But others had been hanged – and there was the rub” (p. 398).As for Fletcher Christian, Alexander likewise offers a careful mix of sympathy and criticism: “What caused the mutiny on the Bounty? The seductions of Tahiti, Bligh’s harsh tongue – perhaps. But more compellingly, a night of drinking and a proud man’s pride, a low moment on one grey dawn, a momentary and fatal slip in a gentleman’s code of discipline – and then the rush of consequences to be lived out for a lifetime” (p. 407). In Alexander’s assessment of Fletcher Christian’s actions on that crucial day, I saw an implicit suggestion that anyone could fall as Fletcher Christian fell – indeed, as we all know that many people have fallen.I read "The Bounty" while traveling in Tahiti. Looking out over Matavai Bay, I imagined the Bounty anchored there, its white sails billowing in the wind, Tahitians rowing or swimming out to greet their British visitors – with no one there even imagining that the ship would become immortal as the site of history’s most notorious mutiny. With helpful maps of the areas covered by the Bounty’s voyages, both pre- and post-mutiny, and illustrations that include portraits of the principal figures in the Bounty story, Caroline Alexander’s "The Bounty" provides a fine and useful look at the Bounty saga.

This very detailed account of the events before, during, and long after the "mutiny" is en example of the gray middle in life. The heroes and villains are not clearly evident - just ordinary people with human flaws. Captain Bligh and Fletcher Christian were certainly not Charles Laughton and Clark Gable. The details surrounding the lives of the players in this story, and the description of life on and off British naval ships during the relevant years helps shows the context of the story in crystal clarity. If there was any true villain, it would appear to be Captain Edwards of the Pandora. The only criticism of the book is perhaps not even a fair one, in that it was so difficult to keep some of the names straight. (Did he stay with Bligh? Did he stay on Tahiti? Did he go to Pitcairn? etc.). That the telling is so detailed is the reason for all of the names, and the author should not be faulted for that.I finished the book believing that I now know all that there is to be known about this famous incident at sea.

I read this book, Kindle version, on my recent vacation to the Polynesian Islands. We actually stayed at the Hilton Pearl Beach Resort on Mativa Bay, near where Bligh and his men had set up their Breadfruit nursery on the shores of the island of Tahiti. It was very exciting to read this research and account of the voyage to and on the island. What made the book even more interesting was the deep dive into the background stories of all the major, and even minor players. Also interesting to read about the many ships stopping at Pitcarin Island to visit Smith/Adams, and what happened to all of the survivors and mutineers in the decades that followed the mutiny. The author made the characters come alive for me, and separated out the documented facts from the myths and legends. Great book for anyone interested in the story and enjoys well written history. I also got to eat Breadfruit, baked in the coals for about 45 minutes, on Moorea. Tasted like doughy bread! You can't read about the history of the Bounty without seeing the actual breadfruit trees, and getting to actually eat it while reading this book was a bonus!

After rereading the justly famous Mutiny on the Bounty Trilogy, I read Caroline's factual account of perhaps the world's most famous mutiny. This nonfiction account provides details, both before and after the mutiny. Fascinating as they what really happened as well as background to the events and a biography of all the participants and their relatives. A true account especially useful to those who want more information than the famous trilogy provides.

I have to give five stars to a history book so wide-ranging and well researched, but I have some problems with it. The order of the chapters defies ordinary chronology and logic, with "Pandora" coming before "Bounty" for example. The documentation is not the old-fashioned exact kind, so it is often very hard to tell exactly where which piece of information or quotation came from. Finally, she gives much evidence about certain important matters, but holds back from making judgments. What she says about Peter Heywood, to mention the most obvious case, is damning, but she never offers her opinion on whether he took part in the mutiny. See my review of "Awake, Bold Bligh," for a real opinion..

Being a real Bounty fan, I found this a very good and extremely well documented (20% of the book is bibliography) story of what happened not only on the Bounty, but to the participants from all perspectives. Caroline Alexander does differentiate between fact and conjecture/opinion, so you are free to form your own opinions based upon the factual offerings she presents exceeding well. For Bounty enthusiasts this is a must read.

You really cant go wrong with any of these Cat in the Hat books, they are such great books for kids. This book, "Would You Rather Be a Pollywog: All About Pond Life" from Cat in the Hat's Learning Library is a bit long for a bedtime story, but still a great read. My 3 year old really enjoyed it, and asked a lot of questions. I like how it covered not only the fish, and frogs from a pond, but also insects and animals and even plants around the pond too! Very cute book. I received this product at a discounted rate in exchange for an honest review. Thanks <3

This series is wonderful. They are rhyming like the other books, but they are full of interesting information about whatever subject they writing about. My daughter who is 9 loves these books. I think we have maybe six of the series so far. They are educational, but written in a fun way as not to be boring.

Bought this book for our 18 month old son as we live on a small lake. While not a pond (as in the book), I figured it would still be a good reading resource to learn about water animals, insects, etc. Like most children, our son loves Dr. Suess and we watch the PBS The Cat in The Hat so he is well familiar with The Cat. I admit this book may be a little too mature for our 18 month old to fully grasp all of the details BUT it's never too early to start learning, right?? He actually enjoyed the pictures and even picked out the "frog", "duck", etc while I read the book to him for the 1st time. I can see this book being read many many MANY times in the future! Can't wait to look into getting more books from this series.

I've been collecting and reading all of the new Dr. Suess Knows A Lot About that series. They are fun to read and my 4 year old is learning some really involved things about stuff you would not think to take the effort to teach them about. For instance in this book, water striders, bugs that breathe from air bubbles, and algae. The great thing is that the sentences are easy enough that I bet he reads the book to me before he is 6. He already has the words memorized from me reading it over and over that he can complete my sentences - so I know he's listening and absorbing the info. He even points to the pictures to tell me what he knows about the insect/animal before I read the page. Great series of books!

A great book for child education

Perfect book about pond life.

Love these books. So fun but educational too.

In Dr Seuss style youngsters learn about the life cycle of amphibians. Adults will appreciate the lyrical presentation of the story.

Then this is the book for you. I have kept a journal for decades. Stories and people who have impacted my life.Stories about my young life I want to give to my children and their children's children. My history, their history. But here I found so many questions in this book that I had not thought of. Some I used, some I did not. But most stimulated unthought of memories that I want to include. It gives you a format, in a way, of ideas unthought of.Family history, so often not passed on, is a priceless gift, so often lost.Painfully, when you lose a family member, you so wish you could pick up the phone and ask them these unasked questions. If you are on this journey or want to make it yours this is the book to you, an invaluable tool.

This book is a beautifully crafted set of questions designed to tweak memories of ordinary things, the stuff of which our daily lives are made. We hesitate to think of our own histories as interesting if we are not famous. But if you ask your children, they will say that how Mom and Dad met or what Grandma Jane's first house looked like are very interesting to them.A word of warning: If you are a worshipper at the Church of Oprah Winfrey and buy this book because of Amazon's mistaken description of the author on the book's Amazon page, you will be disappointed. This book is compiled by Bob Greene and his sister D.G. Fulford. The Bob Greene who wrote this book is the Chicago-based former journalist and current contributor to CNN and NOT the Bob Greene who became famous as Oprah Winfrey's personal trainer. Hey Amazon!! You need to change that!

Not only is this a thoughtfully written and organized book, but this is also a handy little book. It's small size easily fits into a backpack or overnight bag. I put the book and a really good gel pen and a pad of paper into a gallon-sized Ziplock-type baggie so that I can write anytime, anywhere. I always take it with me to the beach and often take it with me on overnight trips, too, finishing one question per trip. I randomly open the book, choose an appropriate question, close the book and start writing whatever comes to mind about the subject. It is surprising how the questions in the book really make one think back. One time I took my 18-year-old son to the beach with me. I showed him the book, we each chose a question and wrote for over an hour, sitting amongst the grasses in the sun and wind. I discovered he was definitely not too young to write down his history! Yes, I hand-write the entries and then transcribe them later with a word processor. A workbook or journal would be too space-restricting for me, and no way can I do a question per day!I'm okay with not answering all the questions in the book. It is nice to know that even if I don't get very far in the book, my three children and my siblings will know me a lot better than if I never answered one. If I had no children, I would write anyway because you just never know who would be touched by your life. This is a must-have book for anyone wanting to pass some history down because it makes it so much easier to do. This book made it easy enough for me, the single mom with two jobs, to start a personal history!

VERY useful book which sets you on a path of leaving a written (or taped) legacy for your family and other loved ones. It's full of all kinds of ideas - you can pick and choose what works for you and go from there. It includes all varieties of information that you probably never thought about! This project is something to get started on early and work on steadily - we never know how much time we have no matter our age. Definitely worth having available for when you're ready to get started!

Using this book as a guide, I'm creating a journal for my children by interviewing their 84 year old great grandmother(who has a great memory and has survived WWII), all four of their grandparents, myself and my husband. This is the kind of project everyone aspires to do but never does then regrets not doing so when it's too late. I've had so much fun learning so many interesting things about my family members. My husband and I have been married almost 10 years and I've learned so many new things about him from these questions. We have fun going down memory lane and sharing our childhood memories together.I plan on giving some of these journals to my nieces and nephews when they are older so they can read them and take comfort in these memories when their family members are gone. My children have spent brief times with their great grandmother but with this information that i've accumulated, they will have a more intimate knowledge of the extraordinary life she's lived and learn from it.This project takes a lot of time but i'm having so much fun learning new things, it doesn't feel like work.

This is such a good book to get one started writing--if you are having difficulties. Not every question is relevant for every person. But the wide variety of topics is amazing. Most anyone will get lots of ideas of what and how to write to leave a record for your family when you are gone.

I was expecting more of a journal where things could be filled in but this more of a list of questions to ask and document elsewhere.

I love this book, my father is 94 years old, his short term memory is bad, but his long term is very good, this book has quite a few different topics and asks a variety of questions. This book will be pasted on to generations and get to know their grandfather, greatgrandfather and beyond.
