Children that are "different" should not be made to feel like outcasts; they need to be understood, not shunned or ignored.

The author: Jennifer Kempner, LCSWR is a mother of three children and a New York State licensed clinical therapist. She received her Master's Degree in Clinical Social Work, specializing in Child and Family Counseling, from Fordham University in New York. She has been working with children, adolescents and adults in various settings since 1999. She currently practices in Dutchess County, New York. Excellent thought provoking resource!!!

If you have pre school or school aged children, this book is a must read! The book is illustrated and written on a level that is targeted towards kids, so they should have an easy time understanding and emphasizing with the different bullying examples that Ms. Kempner presents. Unfortunately in today's society, our children have probably been impacted one way or another by one or more of the scenarios in this book, or at the very least, have a friend that has. I found the book to be very thought provoking and engaging, and have even questioned myself and how I would react in a couple of the scenarios. Great job by the author and illustrator!

Having endured childhood bulling, I can say with conviction, it inflicts a wound resistant to healing and leaves an ugly scar. Therapists and loving parents can only "treat" the painful consequences of bullying. This book encourages a "cure" for the source of pain. It is a call to action for parents to build, within their child's character, a sense of tolerance, patience, and kindness towards those who do not easily fit in. So, I applaud both beautiful Maria and Ms. Kempner for the gift of teaching children to respect all that are beautifully different.

Bullying has become an epidemic in our children’s schools, neighborhoods and playgrounds. Ms. Kempner has created a wonderful book that helps parents teach their children, in an age-appropriate way, what bullying is and how they can rise above it. The discussion questions can help guide parents in having the conversation with their children and the tips for parents are equally helpful. It is a “Beautifully Different” book that is beautifully done. Great job Ms. Kempner!

My two favorite things - superheroes and zombies!

As a 30-something kid - if there are two things I can't enough of its zombies and superheroes. I've seen the Marvel Zombies series before, but I didn't realize it was such a large story and this book has all of it. The book weighs a ton and lists for $125 so the price you get on Amazon is a deal. The book is a bit gory and NOT for children- I won't let mine so much as look at it.

The initial story and even the following series' are very well written and defined and continuous. The fact that the zombies retain their personas was a very cool twist to the story and allowed you to stay connected to your favorite heroes. That is really the defining characteristic of the story and what makes it unique as a comic. The wrap-up of the main story arc was just awesome and seamless.

For the most part the art on the titles is exceptional. With a big omnibus like this, there are one or two issues in tome that aren't up to par, but it doesn't hurt the story.

This book would have received a 5 star rating but the last quarter of the book really loses its way. Maybe there are too many titles from too many authors compiled here, but it is the all content of the series. Inconsistencies start to crop up on who can become a zombie, Howard the Duck appears, and the story just drags on. The covers are explained by the artist up until about the halfway point - which felt like someone gave up on the book!

Overall, the book is very entertaining and has so many characters and twists in it that you could go back and enjoy it again - after you let all your friends borrow it.

A lot of fun, but a bit tiresome after a while.

Who doesn't want to see a super hero zombie apocalypse? This Zomnibus delivers just that. Unfortunately I believe they missed a great opportunity for something a bit more serious resembling a super powered Walking Dead. The original series by Kirkman was originally written to be a one off series but due to its popularity, they kept returning to the well. Only problem with that is most of the good ideas are used up in the first series & it becomes more of a cosmic story rather than a zombie one. It could also be a bit confusing because of the the number of alternative universes that are used. But that doesn't mean Marvel Zombies is a complete disappointment. What Marvel Zombies lacks in story it makes up for in fun. How can watching super heroes rip apart & devour other heroes not be? Plus all the fantastic zombiefied covers based on famous issues of past comics by Arthur Suydum & others are included. Like most Omnibus books. It's a fantastic collection but therein lies its weakness. By collecting everything associated with Marvel Zombies (Except Marvel Zombies Vs Army Of Darkness) well you get the good, (Dead Days,Ultimate FF, Marvel Zombies 1-3,Marvel Zombies Return & Black Panther) the bad(Marvel Zombies 4-5 & Marvel Zombies Supreme)& the stupid (Marvel Apes & Evil Evolution). By the time you reach the end I get the feeling the writers are clutching at straws to keep the series running & the end is completely unrecognizable when compared with the start. I would recommend this as it is probably cheaper than buying only the good stories but just be prepared for a lot of filler.

Loved it!

I've seen from time to time the release of another of Marvel Zombies stories but never try to read them all. Having acquired this book and getting the chance to read it in the correct chronology I totally loved it and fully understand it! Saw some images that will disturb any kids and the introduction to the covers why they choose to used them as Zombie covers, the story of how Marvel Zombies begin, I really like it, this is not a story of people surviving Zombie apocalypse, it's about Zombies hehe

About the Author

Harry A. Kinnison, Ph.D., worked for the Boeing Company for 20 years, 10 as a specialist in the Maintenance and Ground Operations Systems Group of the Customer Services Organization. Specifically, he represented Boeing to airlines on the ETOPS (extended-range twin-engine operations) program, participated in airline maintenance evaluations, and helped airlines develop reliability programs. Since his retirement from Boeing in 2000, Dr. Kinnison has taught aviation maintenance management courses at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Tariq Siddiqui received his degree, Master of Aeronautical Science with specialization in Aviation/Aerospace Safety Systems and Management Specialization from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU). Currently he is employed as manager of aircraft maintenance at a commercial airline. Terry is currently teaching on an adjunct basis at ERAU. Mr. Siddiqui started his aviation career with Pan-Am Airlines. He has over 20 years of experience in aviation maintenance, management, aviation project management, environmental regulations, and investigation incidents and accidents.

Every aspect of maintenance management in one book! Excellent and easy language too!

I had to prepare for an interview after graduation in Aeronautical ENGG. For the position of Planning Engineer in a reputable airline. My limited experience and knowledge in the maintenance management was bothering me and I was all over the Internet searching for books and short listed a no. Of books to buy. Then I came across this book and was amazed to see all information I wanted in one book! I decided to buy this and was worried about the time it will take to ship the book. Then I came across kindle for ipad and bought it right away and it's amazing and more efficient way to read a book! Very thanks to The author, Harry A Kinnison for this treasure! I would definitely recommend this to someone in my shoes or someone who wants to learn the big picture of aviation management !

back then it was eye opening and a good guide to see the whole picture

well I first read this book in 2010 when I was rather lacking experience on the operations and hangar maintenance side of the sector. back then it was eye opening and a good guide to see the whole picture. now after 4 years, 2 of which with hands on experience where I lacked earlier, I see that the information is brief and you may not find answers to all of your questions. still good guide. would be better if it also included whats going on on the other side of the Atlantic.

Received this when I was in school. Amazon rent is probably the best place to get the books you need. Grant it they do not have all the books you will need but most of them they will. I was even able to find some that my instructors said that I may have an issue finding. Amazon rent saved me a ton of money and I recommend it for any and everyone in school. If you are going to be a little late on your return they can extend your rental for a low fee with out having to buy the book at full cost returning the books are easy as well. This in itself should inspire folks to get out there and get their degree.

Daily dozen

The author of this book is one of my heroes from my youth. Bob Hoffman and the York Barbell Company were the main reason I began lifting back in the '60's before athletes were allowed to lift weights. While the book has no new truths, I have enjoyed the view of Mr. Hoffman takes in his belief of exercise. Anyone interested in fitness, health, and vitality would benefit from making the "Daily Dozen" a daily habit.

Good Conditioning Program

Although written in 1958, the information is surprisingly current, probably because it relies on very basic principles. The recommended "daily dozen" is half bodyweight exercises, followed by six basic barbell movements. The author recommends performing the barbell exercises as what he labels compound movements of three exercises each. The barbell exercises are basic enough to be readily adaptable to the use of dumbells or kettlebells. I have followed Hoffman's program for almost a month, and found it to be very beneficial for overall conditioning, which is its stated purpose.

Good simple old-school workout, but no illustrations

Mr. Hoffman summarizes in plain language a practical workout, including stretches and barbell weights, that can be done fairly quickly each day. Much of his commentary about society being unhealthy as a result of modern conveniences, holds true today even more than it did when he wrote this (in the 1950's?).

My only complaint is that the Kindle book does not include the illustrations that the author refers to. However, he is very descriptive in explaining how to perform the exercises, so I'm only deducting 1 star as a result.

I really enjoyed reading this book about a Queen that so few people know about. She lived a fascinating life but she died in disgrace and was promptly forgotten about by history. This is a woman who defied the standards of her day and rose to great power. She managed to sway Popes and Kings to her side and survived numerous attempts at her crown. Towards the end, it was so sad to see how it was all taken from her by a family member she had provided for and cared for throughout his life. Even though you knew it wasn't possible, you kept hoping Joanna would find yet another way to survive and overcome. Ms. Goldstone did a wonderful job of telling a warts and all story all the while still keeping the reader sympathetic to Joanna. I now wish there were more books about Queen Joanna but, as far as I can tell, this is it for biographies about Queen Joanna that have been written in my lifetime. I recommend picking up this book and learning about a fascinating Queen.

Although I read quite a bit of history, I was not very familiar with the life of Joanna of Naples. I found the book well researched and very informative as well as very fascinating to read - not at all "heavy". It not only gave me a good overview of the life and times of this not very well known queen but also of the "Hungarian connection" - I had not realised that at the time the Hungarian royal family was descended from one of Joanna's relatives. I continue to be amazed at the papal courts and how anyone could take the popes and the church hierarchy seriously in view of their scheming, venality, etc. etc. Poor Joanna dependent on such institutions.

This is a very "fat" book full of details and many historical personages. It starts with a bang - a powerful young queen appearing before the Pope to defend herself of charges that she arranged her husband's death. But that is something of a teaser, and it quickly reverts to giving important by dry backstory about Joanna's grandfather and the various claims to the throne.There was so much going on - rival Popes, four husbands, intriguing heirs... but I found it a bit hard to follow though I love historical biographies in general. The depth of research is evident, but the writing style doesn't enchant.

I must admit when I first saw this, I assumed it was about the only Joanna I was familiar with: Joanna of Castile or Joanna the Mad. When I looked at it more closely, I realized it wasn't about her and dismissed it. But then when it popped up on sale I thought why shouldn't I let myself be introduced to a historical figure I've never heard of?And I'm glad I did! Joanna's life was both tragic and impressive. My main complaint about the other book I'd read by Goldstone was that there wasn't much known about the main historical figures and so with at least two of them, their lives didn't seem all that eventful. But that was not a problem this time; Joanna's life was extremely eventful.It's a highly political book that can be hard to follow if you're not familiar with the players involved, which I wasn't. But it's well worth the effort to learn about some of the remarkable and fascinating events that went on in and around the life of this Queen of Naples. For anyone, let alone a woman in medieval times, to navigate this political minefield must have taken great strength and intelligence. Goldstone highlighted a much overlooked, tragic but admirable historical figure who no doubt deserves much more mainstream appreciation than she's received. The writing style was a little dry at times and as ever, I struggled to remain interested in the military bits, but overall, I really enjoyed learning about this amazing woman and the people around her.

The more biographies I read of the mostly miserable lives of royal women in the Middle Ages, the more it is apparent that it was no blessing being born anywhere near a throne in those times. Essentially all of these women - queens included - were viewed as mute integers only in the marriage equations and international power struggles. This was particularly true for this most unfortunate Queen of Naples, Joanna I, who suffered mightily from a series of nightmarish marriages, including one to a husband who beat her regularly and one to a man who was widely viewed as insane even in his own time. With the sole exception of her last consort, all of the men in her life - including the serial Popes - treated her with ruthless disregard - if not physical brutality- in their personal quests for power. It seems every third paragraph begins, "At this time, Joanna was beset..." which, based on this recounting of events, was completely true as she encountered nothing but one crisis after another during her long rule. The fact that she is the saddest queen you probably never heard of, and ruled a considerable swath of territory for a very long time, makes it surprising that she is so little known to history. Perhaps her ignominious end has something to do with how little her name has endured unlike other more well known female sovereigns. In any case, Goldstone does a very creditable job here of telling Joanna's woeful story in a most readable fashion. I was appalled to read in the end notes that a good bit of original source material from this period was destroyed by the Nazis and hence is no longer available. The author here has relied in part on earlier biographers who had access to these primary sources before they were regrettably destroyed. The book moves along in a brisk narrative style and, although thoroughly annotated at the back, the text itself is not interrupted with citations and footnotes which can often be distracting. An excellent discussion of a turbulent time in pre-Renaissance Europe when castles were still being beseiged and thrones were won by intrigue and strength of arms. 4.5 stars

This book or comic is already pretty popular, and already a highly recommend book so what can I offer that these others haven't mentioned? I don't know, I honestly don't think I can but maybe someone can take away something about what I say. Now there not a lot of books dealing with Iran or the Iranian revolution and if their is I haven't found them yet. Now this book is about a young girl going through Iran cultural revolution and how people change and how her whole family had to change or adjust to their surroundings. Eventually she goes to Europe or France (if I remember correctly) and having to deal with love, liberals or hippies, and racism and mean nuns. I don't think story is the first of its kind but that doesn't mean that it should be undermined. The story has great illustrations and how the author deals with this struggles. In a way you see her loose her innocents through a child's eyes till adulthood. There are plenty of stories of young woman having to deal with change, and their countries sexist views and using their religion to justify their actions. Even some American states do it, so calling us nothing or better than Iran is hypocritical. If your intrested in Iran, or the story of a young girl having the deal with change or racism, or the struggles of living in a very conservative/ religious country I would highly recommend this book. This is part 1 of a 2 part story. Ms. Satrapi's masterpiece is one of my favorite works in all of comics. I read this when it came out and foisted it upon all of my comic reading friends. I gave a copy to a niece several years ago, and then recently bought another copy for another niece for her 11th birthday (I'll hold off on part 2 for her until she is 14). Because I had given it to both nieces, my 76 year old mother decided to read it. She is a retired English teacher, and she was floored at how good the story was and how powerful the medium of comics are in telling a story. Persepolis ended up jumpstarting my mother's interest in comics, and in the following weeks she read all three volumes of March, both volumes of Maus, the Story of My Tits, Chicken with Plums, and Two Brothers (this last one confused her, but she loved everything else).So, there you have it. This floored my 11 year niece and my 76 year old mother. It's brilliant and timeless.

This clever book is a kind of a memoir slash graphic novel slash comic book that’s essentially a coming-of-age story about a girl growing up in Iran.I really enjoyed this book and found it really interesting and thought-provoking. Although it sort of appears to be a light-hearted read, it gets into some serious stuff at times and really gives you some perspective.Overall, I highly recommend this book to both young adult readers and adults alike.

A long time ago my high school history teacher put the movie version on in class, much to the dismay on my classmates. A lot of people began complaining about it so my teacher turned it off. I remember being so fascinated by Marjane Satrapi's story and finally picked myself up a copy of her book. What a wonderful story. I think what I love most about the book (which is made up of comic strips) is how different the emotions can be and change. One story/comic strip will have you laughing, another furious, and another heartbroken. It was truly inspiring to see how Ms. Satrapi moved about her life and the trials and tribulations that came with it. Loved it and would highly recommend.

Finally, in the early 21st century do we receive a woman's view of life in Iran. Persepolis deserves to sit among Hirsi Ali's Infidel and Husseini's Murder in the Name of Honor. Perhaps because he parents were not overly devout Muslims, Marjane was permitted to read to her heart's content. She assimilated copious quantities of political dogma at a young age, which enabled her to see things from several perspectives.We are shown life through Marjane's eyes from her days in elementary school (even then she is a bit of a rebel, unwilling to wear the burka in the desert, though she is not alone here). Growing up in a society where social class and gender matter more than anything else, she feels genuine grief for her maid, who is doomed never to marry the neighbour she loves. Fortunate enough to evade the bullets through serendipity before the Shah's overthrow, she is forced to mature rapidly and learns that she must not blame children for the atrocities of their parents. Perhaps the most profound moral of her childhood tribulations is the price of freedom and the tragedy for those left behind, hoping, worrying and fearing for the fate of their loved ones who were imprisoned for being enemies of the state. Everyone living in the democracy must be grateful they are not suffering the fate of North Koreans.Always, regrettably, the dark puppet-masters are omnipresent. Willing to aid despots in their quest for power, the common people are often forgotten and seen as expendable. With no means to resist armed police (or escape from a barricaded cinema), their insurrections are often easy to quell. Recurrent themes are the deadly chains of hatred, vengeance and bitter grief. Forgiveness is a laudable goal, and though Gandhi succeeded in his endeavours, one is always left wondering whether the cost in human lives was worthwhile. Was there a better way? Could the soldiers have been convinced or coerced to turn against their own oppressive regime if necessary?Although told from Majane's perspective, the stories of her uncles, friends and extended families also receive their fair share of space. Each chapter of the first half reveals more of the history and culture of Iran in the 70s and 80s. No detail is omitted and the harsh realities of a country in the throes of anarchy are laid bare for readers to vicariously experience.Her secondary education in Vienna enabled her to learn more about the world beyond Iran's narrow and artificial borders. Like Anne Frank's diary, as Marjane matures, so too does her writing style and vocabulary. Despite being a comic book, the latter half is full of text and can be quite vexing to slog through. The most poignant and tragic moment comes when Marjane rejects her homeland and chooses freedom over a patriarchal dictatorship.
