I received this as a free book and I really liked it. It is basically a How To and What not to and What plants to use. It is thorough and fairly detailed. It lists most of the recommended plants by their common name and their scientific name. I've gardened off and on for years and I found a lot that I knew and even more that I didn't know. If you at all interested in gardening (flower or vegetable) you'll find a lot of guidelines. Ms. Cordell even lists several shrubs and small trees.
A funny and informative guide to gardening!The levity helps with the real life struggle with garden challenges - and the helpful hints and pest battle plans, contingencies, side effects and time line really rock the info humor and fun!

I love gardening, but I don't much in the way of flowers, mostly veggies. This book has given me a boost and I will be growing more perennials.So wish me luck!I am voluntarily reviewing.
This is an excellently laid out boook, and goes into times of year for planting, how to arrange ytour plants etc. The only problem I had with this book is it's writtren for the northern hemisphere, and as I live in NZ I had to disregard the planting times completely. Other than that however, a well done book.

I encourage others to purchase it; sit in the shade of your garden and enjoy the fruit of your labors!This is a very nice book on perennials for gardeners. I really enjoyed this book, especially the humor and sarcasm. One needs to laugh in order to garden! As a life-long gardener, it is nice to have a great book like this to refresh my gardening pores. All of the advice is sound and holistic. As I live in a very harsh climate, I need to interpret gardening advice to fit my life – just like all of you! This book definitely has the structure for tending perennials – just adapt it for your situations. One of the best pieces of advice is to mimic nature in your area – if God planted it here in nature, it is sure to thrive in your yard! Many of her mulching techniques are very adaptable for maintaining gardens in times of drought and harsh winters. I also enjoy her idea of pest control through predatory insects. I do wish she had a chapter on planting for pollinators and butterflies – 2 areas of environmental concern that are attractively addressed by perennials. This book is great for novice through expert; both as reference and instruction. This will be on my 'keeper' shelf. I know I will read it again in the dark of winter. Enjoy!
