The Gold Standard

That's what this book is - the Gold Standard for high end studio design and construction. After you have read Rod Gervais' excellent book and a couple of Alton Everest books, have waded through the Sayers forum and Gearslutz, then come to Philip Newell's book to help tie the loose ends together. Many many options are discussed and you are given some expectations about what those options bring to the picture. For example, isolation techniques and the reduction of sound transmission those options provide. For example: control room design philosophy, how they are accomplished in design and what they bring acoustically when done right. Etc. Awesome resource!

Excellent text, but Kindle version is glitchy

Many of the diagrams are too small/low resolution to be read clearly. The glossary is mostly unreadable, with badly formatted overlapping columns of text, etc. Other than those two beefs, this is one of the most valuable references I've read. I learned quite a bit!

This is a great selection of IN-GAME texts beautifully collected, bound and arranged to help immerse yourself in the lore of the land, provinces and alliances available in the video game The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited. Nearly each story is accompanied by beautiful conceptual and original artwork to help deepen your understanding of the text. This is a first in a series of books exploring the lore of the Elder Scrolls Universe. If you are an Elder Scrolls fan, this book is sure to enhance your understanding of Tamriel.

- Kinda Pricey
- I might have picked a slightly different font
- No new lore. All material can be found and read in-game.

Great book for fans

The presentation is beautiful. It's a hardcover with a surface that's almost velvety with a nice emboss design. If you happen to have the Diablo III companions on the folklore, such as The Book of Cain or The Book of Tyrael, this is almost like those in terms of presentation. The pages are designed like old parchment with yellow pages and mould stains.

The content are actually text from the game. You might find the text online as well through sources such as Wikia but that would be troublesome to go through compared to them all collected neatly in this book.

The text are stories and lore from various inhabitants of Tamriel, from all the three warring factions, Aldmeri Dominion, Daggerfall Convenant and Ebonheart. There's also a section with several chapters on creatures.

For every spread, there's either one or two pieces of beautiful artworks that decorate the blocks of text.

It's a great book for fans of Elder Scrolls Online. The only downside is the peculiar choice of font used that affects the legibility.

Interesting and artistically beautiful, not entirely what I expected

For fans of the Elder Scrolls online, this is a must-have gaming supplement.

It's not exactly what I expected.

I thought that it was going to be a guide to the land. Silly me. What it is instead is a series of anecdotes and tales as told by inhabitants of Tamriel.

The book itself is a work of artistry. It has a heavy duty binding, and pages that are faux aged. It is lavishly illustrated, and many pages have small hand-drawn illustrations and illegible ink-ings that add to the feeling that this is a collection of stories or perhaps a personal journal.

The one thing that it is lacking is maps. I was really expecting there to be maps. Even a collection of stories might've had a hand-drawn map or two tucked into it.

Also, truth in lending, while I highly recommend this book. If you're expecting there to be secrets revealed in it, think again. Everything in this book that I read is available in other sources. Sorry! No dark secrets are revealed.

Again if you are a fan of the Elder Scrolls, I highly recommend this book.

About the Author
Richard Feynman (1918-88) received the 1965 Nobel Prize in Physics for his contributions to the development of quantum electrodynamics. One of the best-known scientists of his generation, Feynman assisted in the development of the atomic bomb and was a prominent member of the panel that investigated the 1986 Challenger disaster.
Known worldwide as the voice of NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab, Albert R. Hibbs (1924-2003) studied for his doctorate under Feynman's tutelage and transcribed and edited Feynman's lectures in quantum electrodynamics.
Daniel F. Styer holds a Ph.D. from Cornell University and is the John and Marianne Schiffer Professor of Physics at Oberlin College.

extraordinary book, I wish I have read it in 1965, I would have found numerous approaches in QM that took me half a century to find out...theory, observation, experimental verification, along with strong mathematical formalization, in a clear, friendly and attractive language, the way Feyman does it, is not a popular science fiction book, neither a dull academic paper, needs some knowledge on the subject and a lot of passion, but it is a treasure...I would also suggest the QED, of the same scientist, to facilitate understanding...

Book gives convincing background as to Path integral applications. I strongly recommend those whom get this book to also look at Feynman's PhD dissertation which explains the origins of the derivational approach, i.e. what the path integral formulation comes from in terms of origins.

Put this reference together with the Feynman PhD dissertation, and a physics person has a complete record as to the origins AND the applications of Feynman's enduring gift to physics.

The best text for getting into Quantum Mechanics.

I've tried a few texts on this subject but never felt satisfied. The standard treatments are very mathematical and non-physical.

No one could explain things like Feynman. He was unique. You need a pretty solid background in classical mechanics and mathematics, and some effort is needed, but this book is well worth the effort.

A treasure trove, from one who has lived it!

I have read and re-read this book several times now. It's a treasure-trove of helpful ideas to help any of us over-wrought doctors examine our burnout and use what we find to re-imagine and reconfigure our lives and work. Most of us have had no training or preparation for the business side of medicine, and it undoes us when we walk into employment situations hoping that administrators will have our best interests at heart. Or, we have no clue how to negotiate or lead teams effectively. We think we know how to take care of patients, but as Dike correctly points out, even patient care is challenging. More so in the current climate of EMR's and increasing documenting and "value-based" criteria for payment. Then, if something happens at home to un-do our already precarious "balance," we can go under completely. Thanks to Dike for putting together such a concentrated stew of nourishment here! Because it can be somewhat overwhelming to take it all in at one sitting, I strongly recommend multiple readings and actually USING the material -- and testing out how it works in your own life.

This book is an excellent resource for anyone working in a 'high burnout' occupation

This book is an excellent resource for anyone working in a 'high burnout' occupation, not just physicians. The book is extremely easy to read and very very practical - with the emphasis on taking small but strategically potent steps to reverse the spiral towards burnout. Much of the book will be directly relevant to all, while some sections are very MD specific, such as coping with Electronic Medical Records systems. However, even this latter section has advice that is very relevant in any system where one is required to work with particular computer systems whether one wants to or not. I bought two copies of this book - one for 2 close family members who are doctors, and one for myself. I work as an EAP counselor and as a counselor in a university which trains veterinary students. I see a number of parallels in the conditioning that Dike Drummond describes as occurring as part of the education of M.D.s in relation to Veterinary training (workaholic, superhero, Emotion-free, Lone Ranger, perfectionist).

I strongly recommend this book for anyone wanting to prevent burnout or reverse the spiral toward burnout.

This book will prove to a real "life saver" for any of our colleague who suffer from burnout. I only wish our most recent physician suicide victim could have read Dike's book. He unfortunately thought "working harder would work".

The culture of acceptance and accountability by our established health care institution is far from welcoming and bracing much of the good education and advice that is in Stop Physician Burnout.

Why another physician suicide will and has to take place to raise awareness is puzzling and disappointing. Unfortunately that is human behavior for you. Man does not change unless a crisis occurs. Unfortunately for the suicide victim there is no second chance.

About the Author
Charles K. Cowdery, author of Bourbon, Straight: The Uncut and Unfiltered Story of American Whiskey, writes about American Whiskey for The Malt Advocate and WHISKY Magazine. He wrote, produced and directed the public television documentary "Made and Bottled in Kentucky," and is editor and publisher of The Bourbon Country Reader, the only publication dedicated exclusively to American whiskey. As a marketing professional, he has worked in and around the American liquor industry for more than 25 years. His other books include Blues Legends (Gibbs Smith), 20 profiles of notable blues musicians. He is also a marketing copywriter and attorney, and lives in Chicago, Illinois.

Going to Church

If you want to see advertising for bourbons, this isn't the book for you. But if you want the story of the bourbon industry, then this is like going to church. You'll get the plain and simple message from the author. This book is now part of my liquor library as the new starting point for my knowledge of bourbon. Enjoyed it, five stars.

Aged in the wood.

It isn't hard to tell when a book is written from piles of research material strung together in a daunting mass. It is equally evident when an entire field of study, wed in the wood, is melded through a lifetime of experience, aged into a narrative that flows so naturally, it issues from the very core of the author. The latter is the case here. From a complex history of chemistry and business decisions is distilled a work that is both complete and readable. Mr. Cowdrey is on his turf here, and it shows. Observations in "Bourbon, Straight" are certain, forceful and backed up not just by facts - but by thoughtful deduction only years can (but do not always) provide. That said, the book is no polemic. The wit and dryly humorous wisdom are winning. When describing one particular whisky, Cowdrey murmers "They possess that ineffable (and much overrated) quality known as smoothness." Highly recommended.

Just adding my voice to the chorus of praise...

for Mr. Cowdery's bourbon book. A very accessible introduction to the topic but filled with information that will educate the aficionado as well. Extremely well-written and researched. Simply a pleasure to read. I only hope that a sequel is forthcoming that will collect more of his outstanding reviews of bourbons currently on the market. You just can't do any better if you want to learn about America's native spirit.
