Thank God for this

It's difficult to find a banking hornbook that doesn't pre-date the 2008 financial crisis. This book, having been written in 2011, is definitely relevant. It was published before the OTS was shut down, though, so I had to keep remembering what functions the FDIC was going to take over, etc.
But for someone with no knowledge of banking regulation or the financial system, this book was a God-send. It had an excellent discussion of Basels I-III, and walked you through the entire timeline, from getting your charter to going into receivership. Malloy consistently references the applicable statute sections, so it's a good idea to keep your statute book handy in order to cross reference and annotate.

I am 100% glad that I purchased this, and would absolutely do it again.

Amazing book!!

Dillon is Ashlyn's new boss and it appears in the beginning that they can't stand each other Dillon insists that Ashlyn accompany him to a conference in Las Vegas. Upon arrival, she realizes she has to share a room with him. Ashlyn was not happy at all. One thing led to another and the next thing you know, she wakes up married. Ashlyn panics, but Dillon refuses to annul the marriage.

Once home, they decide to give the relationship a go. Dillon wants everyone to know that Ashlyn is his wife. How will Ashlyn's family act once they discover she's married and didn't tell anyone. Will Dillon's ex try to win him back?

I loved this book!! The banter between the two main characters is hilarious. The chemistry between them is pretty hot as well and there are some pretty steamy scenes.
Aurora Rose is one of my favorite authors and I fell in love with the Until Series during the first book. I couldn't wait to read Dillon and Ashlyn's story. My curiosity about them was peaked in previous books. I always love getting glimpses of some of my favorite characters from previous books. This story is told from dual POV and can be read as a standalone. I recommend this book as well as the others in the Until Series as well.

Until the Word Rape

I'm not a fan of giving out bad reviews especially to someone who dedicates their life to producing books for their readers, but this one had me upset. The beginning and middle of the story was adorable in its own way. I expected a cute short read, however, based on the ending I was confused. Books that have plot twists containing a murder/mystery tend to have events and little clues leading up to the final scene. This story had a few scattered in-between, but the lead characters themselves were oblivious.
I felt as if the ending was rushed which is a shame because it had the potential to be better than what it was. Another problem I had was that the summary of this book had no warnings to those who are sensitive about rape. Even though there wasn't a scene where a woman was raped, the author made multiple inferences and the term rape at the end. If I knew this was within the books content I would not have read it.

Ashlyn & Dillon

MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS - Ashlyn & Dillon work in the same dental office & when Dillon insists Ashlyn attend a dental conference in Vegas with him, he clearly has motives to seduce her...and marry her! Right away the story fell apart in that we don't understand what happened until much later. It would be very odd for a girl to be so blackout drunk that none of the details come back to her. Dillon is a major alpha - he basically locked her down with a ring so she couldn't worm out of their relationship. They didn't date - they flirted & were totally attracted to each other & he fell for her in a bad way, and found the opportunity to lock her down. He is super protective of her & helps her ease into married life & tell her family & friends. Ashlyn is in danger & then he definitely turns on his alpha male skills. Another odd occurrence - it seems that these two beautiful people were virgins & slept together the night after their wedding? Dillon is the sweetheart in this story, devastated when he doesn't feel like Ashlyn loves him when he is so deeply in love with her - obviously after going to great lengths to marry her, even though that was a little suspicious.

In my opinion, this novel is in a class by itself. It vividly describes the sentiment and prejudice of the times during World War II. It is a love story and a tale of hatred, defiance, and persistent love despite serious obstacles. Finally the family ties are bound together as the war ends and young love triumphs over the devastating results of war.The title of this book describes how honor transcends the sentiment of the times during World War II.I could barely put this book down as it raced to its conclusion.Thank you, Danielle Steel, for a true masterpiece.Janet T. If you're interested in learning how the Japanese in the the U.S. were treated during WWII, then this book will tell you. Ms Steele does a great job of research for this book. But there is great sadness in this story because our government reacted out of fear and put mostly U.S. citizens in the internment camps. As always, she writes a great fictional story in which to tell a true, non-fictional tale. A very good read! I am a white natural born citizen of the U.S. who was married to a natural born citizen of Japan who lived here most of his life and was a U.S. citizen for most of his life.

It reminded me of what people go through in war times particularly if you had Japanese connections during World War II. They went from having a great life to living in horse stalls!! I can't imagine what that was like. But it reminded me to never take life for granted as some people had it so much worse and many lived to tell about it.

A story based on someone who lived through it. How different cultures are treated and what war does to people by our judgments and feelings. How a friendship could have been made at college but wasn't because of race. But in the end the girl matured and helped out a roommate that she felt sorry for.

This book held my interest from beginning to end. As I was only five, I never knew much about the camps for Japanese (and those related to them) during WWII. This book inspired me to read more about this period in history. This book is well written and will tug at your heartstrings.

This is an older book that I somehow missed. Wow!! I knew about the Japanese interments but this was so detailed I had a hard time putting it down. It was so well done that you felt you were there with them sharing their tears and fears. I just wish she could continue the story in another book. She always leaves me wanting more of the story. A good read for the winter.

This is one of the best stories of history relating to the internment camps of Japanese Americans. I was a child during this time, and was very much afraid of our then enemy, but what had happened, should never have. As the war ended some Japanese Americans moved east. We were lucky to have had such a family move into our neighborhood. Their youngest daughter was born in one of those camps and with it all the family still loved America. They were wonderful people, and this book gave me a better picture exactly what they went through. I am an Italian &(Scots) American, who had an Italian last name and that could have been me and my family.

I was not expecting to enjoy this book as much as I did. I had known what had happened to the Japanese during World War 2. It was an outstanding writing about a Japanese young woman and her trials during that time.

A life saver--buy this book

If you are in contact with a complicated brain injury, think no one understands, feel unheard and desperately need help, buy this book.
After struggling for a year and a half with my partner's TBI symptoms I bought a number of books. This one is clear, easy to read and effectively describes exactly the symptoms and difficulties we have experienced. The most valuable point it makes is highlighting the group of people with brain injuries that are falling through the cracks of typical medicine. If you are concerned with the small subset of complicated post concussion syndrome with seizure like episodes that an EEG doesn't pick up, you will finally feel seen. Best yet there are well-documented reports of what treatments seem to work, and which ones are typically not effective. Of the three doctors we work with, only one was willing to take a look. And he had the same "ah-ha" moment that I did. We have changed our treatment--and high time because the decline was frightening. This book should be on every physician's shelf who deals with concussions.

I've come to enjoy seemingly all of Sean's writing on how we as Christians are to regard the city. This book is particularly appropriate for interpreting this because of its focus on how the Scriptures address the city and urban life. I appreciate the various examples that he uses and also found myself really enjoying the chapter on the built environment. Lastly, the idea that he puts forth—that the work of the church goes beyond simply populating cities but seeking the peace and welfare of the city—is something that all of us should consider. Great read!

Amazing Edition of a Classic Work

Mark Twain's 1885 novel, "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn," has had a long history, during which it has been and still is both reviled and celebrated. Essentially the story of the picaresque travels and adventures of a young Missouri boy and his friend Jim, a runaway slave, in 1840's America. Taking cues from books like "Don Quixote" and Jonathan Swift's works, and a fraught relationship to Sir Walter Scott's historical romances and those of his protege, James Fenimore Cooper, Twain constructs a masterful first person narrative, through the eyes of 14 year old Huckleberry and a profound and hilarious satire on American culture.
"Huckleberry Finn" begins in tension - Huckleberry's fortune and wardship with the well-meaning widow Douglas has him in a bind. The widow wants to 'sivilize' him, taking him out of the happy go lucky, easy going lifestyle he loves, while his fortune of six thousand dollars has him living in perpetual anxiety of his father, a violent drunkard whose absence only makes Huck more anxious about his return. When Huck's pap does return, sure enough, Huck is remanded, more or less, to Pap's custody, and kept prisoner in a secluded cabin. Though he is no longer being 'sivilized,' his time with Pap becomes more and more tense and lonely, driving Huck to stage his own death and run away from Pap and from civilization. Early in his escape, on a small island in the Mississippi River, he meets Jim, a slave from his town of St. Petersburg, who has run away, planning to raise money in the north to buy his family out of slavery. Together, Jim and Huck form a friendship that will take them up and down and all around the Mississippi River.
"Huckleberry Finn" deals with a great many social issues, and none more interestingly than with conventional morality. With Huck, he effectively creates an outside position from which to view American culture as he sees it, with all of its pretentions and faults. Huck doesn't put much stock in widow Douglass' or Miss Watson's strictly defined notions of religion or morality - throughout the novel, we see him in constant conflict with himself over the fine line between what is considered right and wrong, and what is accepted as such. Huck's inner negotiations with prayer and morality, good and evil, are at the heart of the novel. His post-Emersonian, proto-Nietzschean manner of dealing with himself and his relationship to society is fascinating and compelling. His relationship with the runaway slave Jim, of course, is also a focal point of the novel - the ways in which Jim and Huck depend on and care for each other is both moving and of course, socially and politically suggestive and significant, especially in the historical context of the novel, both the setting, prior to the Civil War, and its published era, at the tail end of Reconstruction. Those who would be offended by racial epithets in common parlance during this time period would be advised to take historical context into account before railing against the novel's racial politics - if one gets unduly caught up in nitpicking such things, one falls into the trap of the satire, become a target in the process.
As satire or black comedy, "Huckleberry Finn" has at every moment the ability to make us laugh out loud at ourselves and at the situations in the novel - from the fraudulent actions of the King and the Duke, to Tom Sawyer's needlessly elaborate scheme to free Jim from slavery, to well-born cultured families feuding, to all the cross-dressing that goes on in the novel (and there is a lot of it!). Again, though, as black comedy, we may often catch ourselves laughing, then wondering, hey, that isn't very funny - this is the brilliance of Twain's artistic achievement; to make us laugh while looking critically at ourselves. A book that is uniquely American, Twain's humour, wit, and style contribute to give us a look at both Antebellum and post-Reconstruction America through the eyes of innocence and experience, to see how far the nation had come since the days of Washington, and how far it still had (and has) to go.
This 1998 Norton Critical Third edition of "Huckleberry Finn" is truly amazing. It restores the entire text from the manuscript, including among other things, the "Raftsman's episode" and all of the original illustrations. The supplementary materials in this edition are top-shelf also, with excerpts covering the controversy surrounding the novel, from its publication to the present. The critical selections are excellent as well, especially the incisive and yet startlingly personal essays by T.S. Eliot and Toni Morrison. This is probably the best current edition out there of this tremendous, and tremendously complicated American classic.

Twain at his best!

Back during my school days this was still not a book that was considered to be politically incorrect and so I was supposed to read it. As was far too often the case, I got by on little more than watching the movie version and never bothered to read this masterpiece. A few months ago I picked up a copy to put in my library for my grandson to use when he got old enough to go to school. Unfortunately this has been classified as a children's book and so I had little intention of reading it when I bought it.

After discussing a book about President Grant and Mark Twain with a friend I decided that I should read this book and I soon found out just how much of an adventure I had been missing. Twain's well deserved reputation as a storyteller is on clear display in this book from cover to cover. The reader is drawn into the lives of the characters to the point of being really disturbed when something bad happens to them. Sure, they steal and they lie but you will love them in spite of everything.

The story basically follows the adventures of young Huckleberry Finn and a runaway slave named Jim. Finn is trying to escape has father and the efforts of the townspeople to civilize him while Jim is trying to escape slavery. More to the point, Jim is trying to escape being sold down the river, which was always a worry for slaves in the upper south.

There is a strong moral point to this book as Huck slowly learns to love Jim as a friend and not think of his skin color. Early on Huck is worried about helping a runaway slave and isn't sure what to do. Having been raised in Missouri, Huck has been taught that helping a slave run away is one of the worst sins imaginable and that African-Americans are pretty much worthless except as slaves. It takes a while for the truth to come to Huck but he finds that he is determined to help his friend get his freedom, no matter what. Huck ends up risking his own life to do just that.

This book is a pure joy to read and I suggest you read it without looking for a political agenda. Just let the story flow and enjoy each word. The dialects used may slow you down a bit at first but they add so much to the flow of the book that they are quite indispensable. This is a wonderful story, full of youthful innocence and backwoods charm. Just one little warning though, once you start reading you won't be able to put this book down.

CLASSIC. I wanted a copy before new versions may be "abridged" to remove the "n" word. It's all a part of history at that time and is a classic to keep.
