People of all ages have terrible, horrible days, and Alexander offers us the cranky commiseration we crave as well as a reminder that things may not be all that bad. As Alexander's day progresses, he faces a barrage of bummers worthy of a country- western song: getting smushed in the middle seat of the car, a dessertless lunch sack, a cavity at the dentist's office, stripeless sneakers, witnessing kissing on television, and being forced to sleep in railroad-train pajamas. He resolves several times to move to Australia.
Judith Viorst flawlessly and humorously captures a child's testy temperament, rendering Alexander sympathetic rather than whiny. Our hero's gum-styled hair and peevish countenance are artfully depicted by Ray Cruz's illustrations. Great book, poor e-book

This is one of our all time favorite kids books. I loved it as a kid and now I love it when my one year old toddles up to me saying, "Bad day book! Mama read, please!"
Unfortunately the kindle version really drops the ball. It's a good thing that I know the words off by heart because on the page they are almost too small to read. Compressing two pages at a time of an oversized book to the size of a tablet screen just doesn't work. There is not a zoom option, nor is there a page select option for this -even though there is for most kindle books. This means that not only can I not get a closer look but every time we read it I then have to leaf back through the entire book, one page at a time, to read it again. Epic fail, Amazon. Inedible content is the only thing saving this.

Some Days Just Don't Go Your Way

Sometimes you have a day where nothing goes right. It doesn't get better, it doesn't turn out ok at the end, it's just a lousy day. Everybody has them, and this is Alexander's. With nicely drawn art and bouncy pacing, this story is both funny and relatable for both kids and the adults who may be reading it to them.
