About the Author
Tom Cotter has been involved in nearly every end of the automotive and racing industries over the span of his career. From mechanic and auto salesman to heading the public relations department at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Cotter formed his own racing and automotive PR and marketing agency, Cotter Group. The agency represented some of the largest clients in NASCAR, IndyCar/CART, drag racing, and road racing. He has written biographies of the legendary Holman-Moody race team, Tommy Ivo and Dean Jeffries, but is best known for his series of barn find books, such as Cobra in the Barn, 50 Shades of Rust, and Barn Find Road Trip. Cotter appears in the Barn Find Hunter video series, which is distributed by Hagerty Insurance. He teaches public relations at Belmont Abbey College, sits on the advisory board of McPherson College’s Auto Restoration program, and is a member of the Road Racing Driver’s Club (RRDC). He lives in Davidson, North Carolina.

A collection of 50 of Tom Cotter's best "barn-finds". You might recognize the Cotter as the author of many books about finding old collector cars, the first from 20 years ago (The Cobra in the Barn). He predates all of the popular television shows like American Pickers or Chasing Classic Cars. He also has a popular YouTube channel called "Barn Find Hunter".In this book, Cotter regales the reader with descriptions of found motorcycles, muscle cars, race cars, and cars that I have never even heard of. Some of my favorites, based on cars that I loved, were the Superbird, the Super Bee, and the Ferrari. There's a story in here for everyone!I have read some of his earlier works, with the result being that I now cannot drive by an old farm or building and wonder what might be hiding in them. Now my interest has been rekindled!

He's leveraged his passion for restoring and preserving historic autos and motorcycles into a career spanning more than 5 decades and thousands of vehicles. Released 4th Sept 2018 by Quarto's Motorbooks imprint, it's 256 pages and available in hardcover and ebook formats.While I don't restore antique autos (or planes or trains or motorcycles), I well understand the thrill of the chase. I collect needlework tools and especially love early sewing and knitting machines. I've restored drum carders and more old sewing machine cabinets than most people would think entirely prudent. I definitely 'get' what keeps people looking in barns, attics, and basements for the next hidden gem.Anyhow, this is an entertaining and readable collection of restoration hunts which span decades and thousands of miles across the globe. The stories are full of character and humor and warmth and all are satisfying to read. The entries are collected from numerous friends and acquaintances in the hobby and are arranged thematically. Some of them were quite exciting to read (collecting in the former Soviet bloc whilst dodging murderous criminals, really)!Since the collection is broken up into bit size stories, it would make a good 'commuter' read. I had intended to read it on my morning bus commute, but wound up devouring it in one sitting. The stories are accompanied by well photographed illustrations which support the narratives.There's a cross-referenced index at the end and a lot of warmth and appealingly quirky characters between the covers.This would make a superlative gift for fans of the youtube channel or restoration hobbyists or professionals.Four stars, I enjoyed it very much.Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
Collected stories of Tom's Best Barn Finds. Some are reprinted stories and a few are new. This book includes all types of cars and even some motorcycles. It follows the same format as his other books. Hidden away in a long forgotten barn, junk yard or field is treasure waiting to be found. Some are rescued and restored and some are kept as is but they all have a story. The stories are a lot of fun and varied. The photographs accompanying the text are wonderful. Enjoy the arm chair traveling and discoveries.
This was an exciting book with great photos - it is a story I was happy to share with my husband who also loved it. Everything from the trips to '80's Russia, all the bikes, the stock and muscle cars = were a joy to share with Tom Cotter. I enjoyed the oddities and very rare finds but the muscle cars and bikes resonated with me. Thank you, sir, for sharing these great vehicles with us.
