Words that point beyond themselves

For people who appreciate Persian culture and poetry this book is an absolute gem and a treasure. Lovers of Rumi and Hafez, for example, will feel right at home here, and as if they have made a new and quite wonderful friend. Sometimes poetry will point you beyond the words that are printed on the page to something sublime. That is true here. Sometimes when reading poems you will not feel that the poet lived centuries ago and is now gone, but rather that he is somehow quite alive and present in your heart. That is true here. I give this book my highest recommendation. The only thing I might wish for is that the orignal Farsi the author translated from be made available in the book, perhaps on facing pages. As a student of Farsi, it would have helped me tremendously to have the poems in their original language also available. The author does point the reader to books and pages where the original Farsi poems can be found, and I am grateful for that.

An amazing collection of sufi poetry.

This book is a priceless gem, filled with poetic verses that express the deepest mystical insights and secrets on the mysteries and reality of Divine Love. For all serious spiritual seekers out there this book is highly recommended. The words on these pages comes from the heart of one of the greatest of persian sufi poets, Nur ad-Dīn Abd ar-Rahmān Jāmī. Not only do these beautiful verses nourish the heart, but they are so many signs or allusions pointing to and indicating subtly the mysterious realities of the Divine.

Beautiful collection of mystic sentiments from Persian saints

Great job of rendering the mystic writings from Divan-e Jami. It is not easy to translate and convey the beauty of Persian language, leave alone conveying the intensity of the mysteries of the truth. One can pick up the book and read over and over again.
